Higher National Diploma in Care Giver

Exteded Level 5 Diploma in Care Giver- 8 -10 Months - 120 Credits 

This program prepares students to become competent caregivers by combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills across multiple areas of care. Key modules include Introduction to Caregiver, Domestic Affairs of the Client, Preparation of Living Area, Personal Hygiene and Appearance, Nutritional Status, Administration of Medication, Care of Clients with Physical and Mental Diseases, Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Protection, Pathology, and Language, Literacy, and Numeracy. Students will develop expertise in client assessment, ethical caregiving, health monitoring, and communication, supported by case studies and real-world practical exercises to ensure readiness for professional caregiving roles.

Entry requirement

For entry into Extended Level 5 Diploma in Care Giver, learners must possess the following:

* Relevant/Local Board of Examination Result in your Country, which must include at least 5 'C' Grades in English and 4 other subjects.

* Mock Examination Result can also be accepted for initial Conditional Admission, pending the release of the Board of Examination Result. (This is assessed on a case by case basis)

* Learner must be 18 years or older at the start of the Course.

OR

* Mature Learners (21 years or older) with work experience in supervisory, leadership or management roles. (This is assessed on a case by case basis).

Preparation Of Living Area Of The Client

This module focuses on creating a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment for clients. It covers organizing the living space, maintaining hygiene, and ensuring accessibility to meet client needs. Students will learn about infection control, safety precautions, and proper use of equipment and supplies. The module emphasizes promoting client comfort, independence, and well-being. Module 4

Personal Hygiene And Appearance Of The Client

This module covers the importance of maintaining clients’ personal hygiene and grooming for health and well-being. Students will learn techniques for assisting with bathing, oral care, hair care, and dressing. The module emphasizes respecting clients’ privacy, preferences, and dignity during hygiene care. It also highlights infection control, safety, and proper use of hygiene products. Practical exercises and case studies help link theory to real-life caregiving situations.

Module 5

Nutritional Status Of The Client

This module focuses on assessing and supporting the nutritional needs of clients to promote health and well-being. Students will learn about balanced diets, special dietary requirements, and meal planning. The module emphasizes monitoring food intake, hydration, and identifying signs of malnutrition or dietary issues. It covers ethical considerations, hygiene, and safety in food preparation and feeding. Practical activities and case studies help apply theoretical knowledge to real-life caregiving scenarios.

Administration Of Medication

This module introduces students to the safe and effective administration of medications to clients. Language Literacy And Numeracy

The module covers basic numeracy skills needed for tasks such as dosage calculations, measurements, and record-keeping.
